Black Friday deals 2014: Apple deals & more http://goo.gl/0AQrdE

Today is Black Friday, which means you can get special discounts on iPads, iPods, Macs and other Apple products - exept that this year Apple isn't running it's Black Friday sale in the UK, if you want a discount on an Apple product you will have to turn instead to Apple's resellers, but luckily there are plenty of great deals. Here, we bring you everything you need to know about Black Friday, including deals from Apple resellers, Amazon and other tech companies, and also give you some information about Cyber Monday (which Apple is partaking in in the form of charitable discounts). In recent years, Black Friday has made its way to the UK, as has Cyber Monday, so expect deals galore.

Read on for details of the deals being offered by Apple resellers in the UK, with money off Macs and iPads. We have £300 off a Retina MacBook Pro and £40 of some iPads, some free iPhones (as part of a contract, usually £99) and some great Apple deals from John Lewis. More information below.

If you are US based Apple is offering vouchers to people who buy Apple products today.

If you prefer to stear clear of shops, which according to reports are seeing riots - well Tesco's has anyway - you can get many of these bargins online. According to reports, a woman was hit by a falling television and police have been called to seven Tesco shops, and three men have been arrested.

Black Friday 2014 UK: What is Black Friday & when is it?

In the US, the day after Thanksgiving is referred to as Black Friday, and it is the biggest day for shopping as extravagant discounts are applied to thousands of products across various retailers. This year, Black Friday falls on 28 November.

It's named Black Friday because it's the day when stores go from the red (debit) into the black (credit). While Thanksgiving and therefore Black Friday are primarily a US-based holiday, thanks to the internet and online shopping, UK companies have joined in the fun in a bid to make more sales.

However, while some retailers in the UK are offering Black Friday deals, we are still far from equalling the US in the scale of discounts and the attractiveness of discounted products.

That said, the interest in Black Friday appears to have peaked this year. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are set to fuel an “online shopping bonanza” in the UK, according to programmatic media-buying platform Rocket Fuel’s managing director Dominic Trigg.

In 2013 Black Friday saw a 19% increase in visits to retail websites, compared to the year before. While Cyber Monday saw 9% more shoppers visit retail websites than in 2012.

Black Friday 2014 UK: What is Cyber Monday

A new trend that has appeared in recent years is Cyber Monday, which is the first Monday in December and is also the Monday after Black Friday. It's believed to be the busiest day of the year for online shopping, presumably because everyone's recently been paid and realises that they've only got a few weeks left to do their Christmas shopping.

Some retailers launch new promotions on Cyber Monday, so we'll bring you those deals here too.

Cyber Monday and Black Friday mark the beginning of the Christmas shopping period here in the UK, and while currently online transactions account for 19.9% of total UK retail spend, online sales expected to grow in popularity with the UK expected to spend £107bn online in 2014 - breaking the £100bn mark for the first time.

On Cyber Monday - 1 December - Apple will be running a promotion in which it will be donating money to the fight against AIDS.

1 December is also World AIDS Day and basically, if you buy an Apple product that day Apple will make a donation to the cause. Apple says that for every product sold: "We’ll contribute a portion of the proceeds from every product, accessory and gift card we sell to the Global Fund to fight AIDS."

This is part of (PRODUCT) RED a charity that Apple already donates to via sales of it's (PRODUCT) RED products including the iPod shuffle, iPod nano, iPod touch, Smart Covers and Smart Cases for the iPad mini and iPad Air, and cases for the iPhone 6 and Phone 6 Plus.

Black Friday 2014 UK: Apple Black Friday sale

Apple Black Friday Sale Discounts

Apple was expected to sell its products at a reduced price on Black Friday 2014 as it had in the past (the image above was from a few years ago). However, this year in the UK Apple appears to have decided that it doesn't need to offer any incentives to get people to shop on the 28 November. (Read on to see some great deals on Apple products being offered by Apple resellers - next section...)

Last year in the UK, Apple offered savings of £31 on the iPad Air, and the iPad mini was reduced by £15.

As for Macs, the MacBook Pro models were on offer with savings of £81, as were the iMac and MacBook Air. The iPod touch was reduced by £25 and the iPod nano was £11 cheaper.

For Apple's customers in the US, its Black Friday voucher deal will kick off at 00:01am on 28 November and run until 11:59 that day. This is the same deal as Apple did in the US last year. Apple ditched discounts in favour of reduced gift cards or the offer of a free gift card (worth up to $75) when you purchase an Apple product.

The company has done the same this year in the US, announcing on 24 November that purchasing various Apple products will get you a (RED) iTunes gift card to spend in the Mac App Store, iTunes Store, App Store and iBooks Store, continuing its (RED) campaign to fight against AIDS. The company will be making a charitable donation when you spend your voucher.

Purchasing an iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c on Friday will get those in the US a $50 gift card, as will an iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad mini, iPad Air 2 or iPad Air.

An iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, 5K iMac or MacBook Pro with Retina display will get you $100 gift card, while an iPod touch, iPad nano, Apple TV or Beats headphones or speakers will get you $25.

Apple has been running Black Friday discounts in the UK for some years now so it is a surprise that this year it has decided not to. In 2012, Apple offered discounts in the UK, with £31 off the iPad 4 (its flagship iPad at the time), £21 of the iPad 2, £81 off all its MacBooks, £21 off its iPod touch and £11 off the iPod nano. Other accessories including the Time Capsule and Magic Mouse were also discounted.

In 2011, Apple's deals included £81 off an iMac, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, £51 off an iPad 2, £15 off an iPod Touch and a £50 iTunes voucher for £45.

Luckily Apple isn't the only company to sell Apple products in the UK - if you are despirate for a discount on an Apple product we have all the deals from Apple's Resellers below.
