Well, that changed quickly -- the Game of Thrones
adventure series from Telltale Games went from "no date" to
"release date" overnight. The developer tweeted
the news yesterday evening, dating the highly anticipated debut for
next week.
Iron from Ice, the first episode of what is being
billed as "season one," will launch on Tuesday 2 December for PC
and Mac, Wednesday for PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360,
and Thursday for iOS. It is also planned for "other platforms"
(cough*Android*cough) though a date has not been announced for
the format yet.
Telltale is famed for its gaming adaptations of
The Walking Dead and Fables comics -- the latter
as The Wolf Among Us -- which champion narrative, emotion,
and decision making over action. Its take on Game of
Thrones is informed more by the TV series than George R.R.
Martin's epic novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, though
Martin has oversight on the game.
Players inhabit the role of members of House Forrester,
described as "a noble house from the Wolfswood in the north of
Westeros. Bannermen to House Glover, they have always offered
unswerving loyalty to the ruling great house of the North -- the
Starks." Events run from the end of season three of HBO's drama to
just before the beginning of season five.
While the characters you'll be playing are new, the game will
see you interacting with the cast from the TV series. Peter
Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Lena Heady (Cersei Lannister), Natalie
Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), and Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Snow) all appear
in next week's first episode, with other actors following through
the season's five subsequent episodes.
