Online marketplace Etsy has today launched a
bricks and mortar pop-up store in London's Covent Garden.

The Etsy House will be open for three days only (5-7 December)
showing off and selling a curated collection of some of the best
products from Etsy sellers across the UK.

WIRED.co.uk swung by the shop this morning to see some of the
wares. There was a vast range of products, from home goods and
interior decorations, to jewellery and clothes, to stationery and
very lovely kitchenware. A few of the sellers in store will be
offering personalised items and there will also be workshops on
Saturday and Sunday.

The Etsy House is using technology form Vend, a company from New
Zealand, to bring online retail offline. Vend is a point of sale
and bespoke software management company that works with payments
company iZettle in the UK. In-store sales software is run on
iPads.

"It replaces a cash register -- but it also is back office
tasks, so it can manage inventory, do your stock orders, manage
your customers and do business reporting," Vend's head of brand and
communications Simon Pound tells WIRED.co.uk.

"What we have happening here with Etsy is a perfect example of
how Vend operates. We're able to partner with them to do a pop-up,
but being a cloud-based software it's incredibly scalable." He
points out that if the business worked out and carried on running,
or if a seller was to open up in another outlet, all the
information on stock and sales would already be there.

Don't
miss

"With this pop-up it was as easy as taking the information,
putting it together, uploading it and then using it. In fact it
took one day to set up the store," he adds.

This is the first pop-up Etsy has hosted in London, and follows
the success of a similar project in New York, which attracted
20,000 visitors over the 10 days it was open. Given that the
products in the pop-up shop aren't mass produced and that the Etsy
House itself is quite tiny, it might be worth popping in sooner
rather than later if you're hoping to pick up something unique for
a friend or family member over Christmas.
