Warner Bros kills it with Will Smith in Suicide Squad movie http://goo.gl/asXIfV

Suicide Squad, Warner Bros' first movie in its expanded
DC Cinematic Universe, has finalised its cast and is set to start
shooting in February. Perhaps the biggest surprise in the casting
is Will Smith, who will be playing mercenary Deadshot. Although
rumoured to be circling the film for a while, signing a headline
name like Smith was considered something of an outside chance.

The rest of the team of comic book supervillains is rounded out
by Jai Courtney as Captain
Boomerang
, Cara
Delevingne
as Enchantress, and
Tom Hardy as Rick
Flag
, the only non-villain on the team and their field
leader.

The film, directed by Fury's David Ayer and due for
release in 2016, will be Hardy's second major brush with the DC
Universe, after his notable appearance as Bane in The Dark
Knight Rises
. Those Christopher Nolan-directed films are
unconnected to the upcoming slate of DC movies though, so don't expect more than
maybe an Easter egg as far as connections go.

Also appearing are Jared Leto as the Joker, joining the previously confirmed Margot Robbie as his equally psychotic
paramour, Harley Quinn.

Don't
miss

Warners hasn't confirmed whether Joker and Harley are actually
part of the team -- in the comics, a group
pressured into black ops, deniable missions by the US government in
exchange for reduced sentences -- or the bad(der) guys of the film.
Pitching the Suicide Squad against an irredeemable
psychopath like the Joker could be a solid path to making the
protagonists seem heroic in comparison. It could also lead to
Harley switching sides, matching her role as a Squad operative in
the DC Comics source material.

Notably absent from casting though is any word on Amanda Waller,
the woman who created the team, officially dubbed Task Force X.
She's an important figure in the DC Universe as a whole, so the
lack of any sign of her could indicate a sizable departure from the
lore.
