Acer unveils largest ever Chromebook at 15.6 inches http://goo.gl/L5hlx4

Acer has unveiled the largest Chromebook we've ever seen at CES
2015. With a 15.6-inch display, the Chromebook 15 sees the low-cost
laptop concept supersized to replicate the experience of using a
full-sized notebook, presumably to suit those more concerned with
productivity than portability.

Chromebooks run Chrome OS, an operating
system based on Google's Chrome browser,
and designed primarily for always-online use. It is built to be
less demanding than traditional laptop operating systems, which
allow Chromebooks to run on lower-powered components and provide a
cheaper option for consumers who still want a computing experience
with a keyboard.

They have traditionally been on the smaller side to keep them
portable, but Acer has bucked the trend with the Chromebook 15. The
company explains that the larger screen size is to help improve
productivity "by giving customers more real estate to view multiple
tabs and apps".

It comes with a variety of different display and processor
options, allowing users to keep the price down if they wish, or opt
for a more powerful experience. Customers will be able to choose
between Full HD and HD displays, and will also be able to decide
whether the Chromebook packs a 5th Generation Intel Core i3 5005U
or Intel Celeron 3205U processor. Price will also be affected by
whether customers choose the 16GB or 32 GB SSD variant, and whether
they go for 2GB of 4GB of RAM.

The Chromebook 15 will go on sale in Europe in February for €279
(£218).

A second, smaller laptop, the Chromebook 13, will now also come
with a touchscreen, Acer has announced. This Chromebook packs an
Nvidia Tegra K1 processor, meaning that it offers superior graphics
performance to other products in the category. It will go on sale
later this month for €329 (£258).
