Alpine's ILX-007 is a car stereo for only the truest Apple enthusiasts http://goo.gl/mte3ae

LAS VEGAS - At CES 2015, we got our hands on Alpine's first dedicated Apple CarPlay receiver: The ILX-007.

When we say the ILX is dedicated to Apple's in-car interface, I mean that it is 100% dedicated. The unit is totally mechless, which means that it lacks a CD/DVD drive, and it support no other audio sources outside of a USB connected iPhone 5 or 6 smartphones running iOS 7.1 or higher. Once connected, the unit displays Apple's CarPlay interface, putting Siri voice search, Apple Maps navigation, voice activated calls and messaging, and a selection of media apps at the driver's fingertips.

The competition from Pioneer, Kenwood, and Parrot add CarPlay interfaces on top of their own firmware and long source lists; Alpine's 7-inch receiver takes an all or nothing approach to its Apple allegiance. Alpine tells us that its simpler CarPlay approach means that that ILX-007 has less overhead, so its operation should be snappier than what we've seen from Pioneer.

The ILX-007 is also compatible with rearview cameras and Alpine's Tune-It sound setting app which allows the driver to adjust Time Correction, Parametric EQ, Crossover, and Media Xpander on their iPhone and save up to 100 different profiles.

The Alpine ILX-007 is available now at an MSRP of $800.
