Retro gaming has made a healthy comeback, so what better way to relive the games of yesteryear than through a massive archive of over 2400 retro free-to-play DOS games, and that play in your very own web browser? That’s right, you don’t need an emulator app or to download anything, your web browser will emulate DOS and play thousands of excellent old school games natively thanks to The Internet Archive. That means you can play these classics from just about any device or computer you can imagine, be it a Mac, Windows PC, iOS, Android, or whatever else you want some retro gaming action on.

There are so many classic games available that nearly anything you can think of is included, ranging from Duke Nukem, Street Fighter II, The Oregon Trail, Sim City, Lemmings, Prince of Persia, Commander Keen, if it’s an old school retro game and you can name it, and it’s probably there and free to play.

If you don’t want to wade through the 2000+ strong jungle of MSDOS titles, here are three classics that many gamers will instantly recognize: Street Fighter 2, Oregon Trail, Sim City.

You can either play them in the small window of a web browser, or expand them to full screen. The web-based emulator works surprisingly well and you’ll have no problem playing them on just about any hardware. Since it’s web based, don’t expect to save any of your game states or the games themselves, however.

The games even work with a gamepad, so if you have a PS3 controller connected to your Mac, or any other gamepad hooked up, it should work just fine, which is good because I have no idea how you’d manage to pull off the crazy combos in Street Fighter 2 without a controller.

These were originally discovered by none other than The Washington Post, perhaps during some deeply thorough journalistic exploration into playing DOS games, who knows. Anyway, have fun!

And if you want to experience some more retro action from the web, don’t miss this collection of amusing boot screens, or just check out our retro section and emulator archives, there’s a lot of good stuff out there.
