ITV offers first look at Thunderbirds reboot's miniature sets http://goo.gl/hhQM1L

Ever since Thunderbirds Are Go! was announced as being
a hybrid of live action, miniatures, and CGI, fans have wondered what
the reboot of Gerry Anderson's classic puppet-based kids' show
might look like. While the premiere of the series is still a few
months away -- currently set for 15 April on CITV -- a new video
from the creators gives the first hint at how it may all come
together.

The new "Introducing the World" teaser offers
a tour of the new Tracy Island, home to brothers Scott, Virgil,
Gordon, Alan, and John, and their subterranean base that houses the
Thunderbirds
rescue vehicles. This is where the live action and miniatures parts
of the recipe come in, with a rather impressive array of sets
created by WETA Workshop, the effects house behind The Lord of
the Rings
and James Cameron's Avatar.

We have to admit, it's all looking rather impressive. The
tropical island looks stunningly detailed, and any returning
viewers will be delighted to see classic features such as the
retractable swimming pool revealing a rocket silo have been
retained for the update.

Don't
miss

The video also delivers the first pieces of the series' score,
with a haunting piece playing as we visit several locations to be
seen in the show. The music is composed by Ben and Nick Foster, who
have previously penned music for Doctor Who and
Torchwood.

However, there's still no sign of the iconic vehicles
themselves, nor any actual footage working the new
look Tracy Brothers
into the scenery. With mixed reception to
the pilots' redesigns, some fan fears won't be allayed until we see
some actual finished footage, though this is a promising indicator
of quality.
