Christopher Lee is known for many roles -- Saruman in The
Lord of the Rings, Scaramanga in The Man with the Golden
Gun, Count Dooku in Star Wars. However, he's
increasingly adding "rock god" to his resumé, with the release of
his third heavy metal Christmas single.
The track, called Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing, is
available on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon now, and is
an operatic upgrade of Hark, the Herald Angels Sing. Lee's
version brilliantly features killer twists on festive lyrics such
as "Glory to the Metal Kings" and "Christ I like those heavy
chords, Christ I want to hear some more".
While it might seem a novelty, it's not the first time the
cinema legend has embraced the genre. Lee has released a
Christmas-themed heavy metal single each year since 2012.
His appreciation for the style goes back even further though, at
least to his 2005 collaboration with Italian symphonic metal band
Rhapsody of
Fire on the track The Magic of
the Wizard's Dream. Lee's first metal album, 2010's Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross began a musical
narrative based on the life of the eponymous Holy Roman
emperor.

As well as setting records for being the oldest performer in the
metal genre, and the oldest to ever enter the Billboard charts
(with his 2012 single Jingle Hell, released at the
spritely age of 91 and a half), Lee's burgeoning second career has
won him accolades from the likes of Metal Hammer.
Now 92, Lee shows no signs of slowing down. He also keeps a YouTube
channel offering his thoughts on new tracks and detailing his
own background and connections with music. Basically, Christopher
Lee is officially more metal than you, or pretty much anyone.
