E3 live: Xbox, PlayStation on tap at video game show http://revealedtech.com/microsoft/e3-live-xbox-playstation-on-tap-at-video-game-show/

Update, 10:57 a.m.: We have a HoloLens sighting. And what does Microsoft use to showcase the gaming potential of its holographic headset?

Minecraft, of course, the game Microsoft acquired in its $2.5 billion deal to buy developer Mojang.

A pair of people on stage demonstrate a Minecraft game, with one player using a HoloLens to interact with the universe projected for him on a table. Nearby, another player uses a tablet to play in the same world.

They say more details are coming at the upcoming Minecraft conference in London next month.

Update, 10:37 a.m.: Microsoft is trying to make sure you don’t need to leave your Xbox, even if it’s just to use another Xbox.

The company says backward compatibility is coming to its Xbox One console, allowing users to play games designed for the prior generation Xbox 360.

Xbox chief Phil Spencer touted the importance of exclusive games to the console. To that end, the company revealed details on the next version of mainstay “Halo,” as well as “Rise of the Tomb Raider” and “Forza Motorsport 6.”

Other studio chiefs took the stage to announce exclusives for Xbox Live users like temporary access to EA’s online game vault and an early beta of a coming Ubisoft game.

LOS ANGELES — Xbox is set to take center stage at the E3 gaming trade show in Los Angeles Monday morning.

Expect details on the games Microsoft hopes will draw buyers to the video game console, including “Halo 5: Guardians,” “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” and “Forza 6.”

Microsoft is also likely to show off a bit more of its vision for how its HoloLens holographic headset could be used in gaming. A nod or two to Facebook’s Oculus virtual reality headset, which will ship with an Xbox controller, could be in the cards, too.

Microsoft’s show kicks off at 9:30 a.m. EA, Ubisoft and Sony PlayStation are scheduled to host events later Monday.

Follow along here or on Twitter, and check out our preview of the show’s unlikely PC tilt. Xbox is also broadcasting a live stream of the proceedings.

E3’s unofficial kickoff came extra this year. Press conference newcomer Bethesda, the game publisher behind titles like “Doom” and “Fallout,” shared a bit more about the next versions of both franchises Sunday night. “Doom,” among the original first-person shooters, is set for a fresh release in early 2016. It will, of course, still feature plenty of zombies and a chainsaw.
