LOS ANGELES — Exclusive games and content are key to the success or failure of platforms, Xbox chief Phil Spencer said Monday. Microsoft’s game console lost a big one this week when Activision’s “Call of Duty” switched camps to PlayStation.
The blockbuster shooter series had for years released new content — maps, weapons, game mods — first on the Xbox platform. With the release of “Call of Duty: Black Ops III,” those goodies will migrate to PlayStation. Users of Sony’s console will get a first look at a multiplayer beta for the game in August.
