LOS ANGELES — Microsoft has added Xbox One to Cortana’s ever-expanding domain. The voice-activated digital assistant, released last years as a resident of Windows Phone, is coming to PCs running Windows 10 when the operating system is released later this year. Versions for Android and iOS smartphones are in the works.
And on Monday, Microsoft said Cortana would be introduced to Xbox One this fall as part of a slate of changes to the user interface of the gaming console. On Xbox, Cortana will help players find friends to compete against online, set reminders that show up across other devices, like smartphones, and other common tasks.
Other changes coming to Xbox include a redesign of the tile-based homepage aimed at bringing up users’ most-used games and apps. An expanded community section includes more detail on what friends on Xbox Live are up to along with news and trending stories on coming games.
