There are similarly-priced MP3 players on the market with color screens, larger capacities, and also clips, so it really wouldn't be surprising to me if Apple does decide to discontinue the Shuffle. The market for these players are dwindling anyway.

People don't listen to music in 2015 anymore.
Plus they have the music player on their iPhone 6 Plus for when they want to listen to something while exercising.
Time to phase out music and iTunes in general. The market is done with music.
